They are running out of resources and food. The only hope lies in the face of Rahima if society allows her for ancient Afghan custom. This is a tradition in case there is no man to earn the money then a girl is dressed as the boy and treated like the boy until or unless she reached her marriage age. She is happy while going outside and have the freedom which is impossible for any girl there. This is the first step towards her journey and a lot more to come. A century ago the same ancient Afghan custom was adopted by her grandmother. She saved her family in the same pattern and do not let them suffer from food. Same is the case with Rahima, she is young and motivated to do each and everything for her family.
