In short, he has the most unfortunate of all. The Essay by Robin Yocum is a very interesting novel on Jimmy Lee Hickam. He is from the thieves, drunkards, and moonshiners who have spent their most of the time in the jails of the region behind the bars or the hardscrabble hills. But, Hickam believes in his destiny, sitting with his criminal brother behind the bars or working with drunk father at the sawmill. His English teacher cuts him a break as he has the ability to play football. His teacher wants his eligibility for the coming football season. This is where the fortune starts to be in Jimmy’s favor. Jimmy rewards his teacher with a winning essay in the high school writing content so to make her proud of him. But, the administration and his angry parents blame him for cheating. His teacher again did him a favor of supporting him and his writing talent. She showed him the path to go out of the hills of Appalachia. All the characters are carefully given with an incredible story. The story is full of surprises, past betrayals and lot more to give it a life. You will definitely enjoy this novel.
