It is a well-written novel based on a historical flood that devastated lots of lives along the Ohio River. The story is enjoyable and the author does a great job building suspense and fluidly. It begins with the murder of a husband who is a wife beater. The River Widow combines a lyrical writing style with an intriguing story. The characters are well thought out and most of the situations were plausible. It is an exciting story of love, loss and inner strength. This novel is an amazing story of courage and survival under the most difficult circumstances. The author presented a story of the quandary of abuse. This book has a deep and twisting story. We would recommend this book to teenage girls. It would give them the example of what can happen in abusive relationships, and how to find your inner strengths in a bad situation.
