The story centers around a holdout group that has somehow managed to defy the end game, offering a community for those able to manage the spore. Hill deftly creates both character and story, combining them into a terrific read with depth, complexity, humor, and horror. It had fabulous explosive set pieces of violence and a charming love story. It has a crazy cult and a cross country voyage through the wastelands. It has a charming believable hero and a smart funny heroine, who turn the incendiary plague into a weapon and a blessing.
